PurposeThe purpose of the Committee is to encourage and arrange employee fundraising activities at the Airbus Defence and Space (Portsmouth) and distribute money, aid, gifts or support to beneficiaries in accordance with the objectives.
This is an employees committee and as such is not attached, linked or attributed to Airbus Defence and Space as a company.

Astrium Employees' Charity Campaign 5 - Hampshire and Iasl of Wight Air Ambulance

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – Registered Charity Number 1106234 – began operations on 1st July 2007. The Helicopter is based at Thruxton Airfield near Andover and every day the Air Ambulance crew provide an efficient, prompt response to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses, and many other incidents throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Helicopter is called out many times per day, and these missions are often lifesaving.
One of the major benefits of the Air Ambulance is that patients can be taken quickly to the hospital which is most appropriate for their injury, rather than the nearest hospital. For example, if the patient was suffering from burns, they could be taken to the burns unit at Salisbury District Hospital, or if there was a suspected head injury, the patient could be taken to the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital.
It is our aim to provide an exemplary Air Ambulance service to the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, conveying patients to the most appropriate hospital for their needs. The cost of providing this service is approximately £125,000 a month, and so with your help and support we will continue to extend the service, and keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.

Astrium Employees' Charity Campaign 4 - Brain Tumour Research
May 1st to December 31st 2012This charity was nominated by Simon Tier who was at the time preparing to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for this charity.
Other employees had nominated related charities in support of victims of brain Tumours. To date, over £8,000 has been raised.
In the UK more children and people under the age of 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. Brain Tumour Research aims to raise at least £7 million per annum to significantly accelerate progress in UK brain tumour research, making a clinical difference and improving patient outcomes. Brain Tumour Research relies on the support of so many inspirational people, many of whom have been affected, either personally by a brain tumour or who have witnessed the pain and suffering of someone close to them. These wonderful people are getting behind the cause in ways that best suit them, donations, sponsored events, organising events or setting up a fund under our umbrella.

In August Simon cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats with the aim of raising £2,740; the cost of one day's research into Brain Tumours at Portsmouth University.
